How would I go about modifying this for knitting in the round?

The first stitch in row 3 is the slipped stitch with yo. You have to knit this slip st with yo together. Then yo and slip next stitch.

I love the patterns but can both the hat and the matching cowl be knit in a circle.

Your note states that the pattern is EASY. I'm new to knitting and I do not understand some of the instructions. How do I make a Fisherman's Rib verses the P 1 K 1 P 1 method. I have never use the YO what is this and how is it done? Do you have a Tutorial that would help with this? I learn quicker when I see the pattern in action verses reading it and not knowing the code. Thank You.
