Easy Garter Stitch Poncho from Leftover Yarn for 18-inch Doll

Free Doll Poncho Knitting Pattern

Skills Required/Techniques Used:

-Knit, purl, cast on & bind off

-Picking up stitches

Materials: Red Heart (affiliate link) Super Saver 100% acrylic yarn worsted weight leftover yarn of several colors.

Notions: small scissors.

Needles: US#8 (5.0 mm) OR SIZE NEEDED TO OBTAIN GAUGE.

Gauge: 13 st x 26 rows = 4" x 4" (10 x 10 cm)

Pattern Notes:

Garter Stitch: all rows - knit sts

The selvedge/edge stitches are worked as follows: knit the first stitch and purl the last one in a row.

Directions
Cast on 20 sts with the first yarn color. While casting on leave a 4" (10 cm ) tail.
Rows 1-2: k19, p1. Cut the yarn, leaving a 4" (10 cm ) tail. Tie the 2 tails (see picture below).
Rows 3-4: use another yarn, leave a 4" (10 cm ) tail when joining the yarn. Work 2 rows of garter stitch, as rows 1-2. Cut the yarn, leaving a 4" (10 cm ) tail. Tie the 2 tails (see picture below).

Rows 5-94: work as rows 1-4 changing yarn every 2 rows. Cast off.

Pick up 20 sts along the left edge of the knitted poncho closer to the end of the piece (see picture below). While casting on leave a 4" (10 cm ) tail.
Rows 1-2: k19, p1. Cut the yarn, leaving a 4" (10 cm ) tail. Tie the 2 tails (see picture below).
Rows 3-4: use another yarn, leave a 4" (10 cm ) tail when joining the yarn. Work 2 rows of garter stitch,as row 1-2. Cut the yarn, leaving a 4" (10 cm ) tail. Tie the 2 tails (see picture below).
Rows 5-40: work as rows 1-2 changing yarn every 2 rows. Bindt off.

Finishing:
Sew the end of the short part to the left edge of the longer part at the beginning of the part.
Make fringe at the cast on and bind off edges.

I have been knitting since I was a little girl. I have to admit my hands don't work as well as they use to but I found this a very confusing pattern. i had my eight year old granddaughter try it and she couldnn't understand it either. I hope your other patterns aren't as confusing. thank you.
