Free Men Sweater Knitting Pattern

Size: M

Materials:
100% Wool Lion Brand (affiliate link) Fishermen's Wool aran weight yarn 465 yd (458 m) / 227g - 2 skeins. Color Dark chocolate brown (A)
Noro (affiliate link) Kureyon aran weight yarn, color 149, 50 g / 100 m (109 yards) - 4 skeins (B)
Needles: 6 (4.0 mm) and circular needles 6 (4.0 mm) OR SIZE NEEDED TO OBTAIN GAUGE

Gauge: 18 st x 24 rows = 4" x 4" (10 x 10 cm) for stocking stitch with yarn B.

Patterns:

Rib: 1k, 1p

Stocking Stitch
1 row and all odd rows - knit sts
2 row and all even rows - purl sts

Shadow Box Pattern
Multiple of 4, plus 3 plus 2
Rows 1-2 are worked with yarn A (Fishermen's Wool)
Rows 3-6 are worked with yarn B (Noro (affiliate link) Kureyon
Row 1 (RS): yarn A, knit
Row 2: sl 1, k1, *k1 wrapping yarn twice around the needle, k3*, repeat from * to *, end last repeat k1, p1.
Row 3: yarn B, sl 1, k1, *sl 1 wyib (with yarn in the back) dropping extra wrap, k3*, repeat from * to *, end last repeat k1, p1.
Row 4: sl 1, k1, *sl 1 wyif (with yarn in front), k3* repeat from * to *, end sl1, k1, p1.
Row 5: sl 1, k1, *sl 2 wyib, k2*, repeat from * to *, end sl 1, k1, p1.
Row 6: sl 1, k1, sl 1 wyif, *p2, sl 2 wyif*, repeat from * to *, end k1, p1.
Repeat rows 1-6

Double Sided Stocking Stitch
Cast on even amount of stitches
1 k, slip 1 st knitwise with yarn in front
Turn, repeat the first row knitting slipped stitches and slipping stitches knitted in the previous row.

Back
With the brown yarn cast on 81 sts
Knit rib for 12 rows. Add 20 sts evenly in the 12th row.
Work Shadow Box pattern for 134 rows (22 repeats plus 2 rows)
Row 147: to shape an armhole cast off 5 sts at the beginning of the row.
Row 148: cast off 5 sts at the beginning of the row.
Row 149: cast off 2 sts at the beginning of the row
Row 150: cast off 2 sts at the beginning of the row
Row 151: cast off 1 st at the beginning of the row
Row 152: cast off 1 st at the beginning of the row
Row 153: cast off 1 st at the beginning of the row

Rows 155-210: continue to work Shadow Box pattern.
Row 211: to shape a neckline cast off 35 sts in the middle of the back and continiue working the left and right parts of the back separately.

Left Part
Row 213: cast off 1 st at the beginning of the row.
Rows 214-216: continue to work Shadow Box pattern. Cast off.

Right Part
Row 214: cast off 1 st at the beginning of the row.
Rows 215-216: continue to work Shadow Box pattern. Cast off.

Front
With the brown yarn cast on 81 sts
Knit rib for 12 rows. Add 20 sts evenly in the 12th row.
Work Shadow Box pattern for 134 rows (22 repeats plus 2 rows)
Row 147: to shape an armhole cast off 5 sts at the beginning of the row.

Finishing:
Pick up 28 stitches along left and right sides of the zipper opening plus transfer 3 sts from the safety pin. Total 59 sts.
Work stocking stitch for 4 rows decreasing in each odd row 1 sts in the corner of the zipper opening (2 sts in each row, total of 4 sts). Cast off.
Join shoulder seams.

Collar
Pick up 126 sts on circular needles along the neckline and knit double sided stocking stitch for for 14 rows.
Continue to work rib (k1, p1) for 20 rows. To shape a collar add 1 st after the 2nd st and before the 2nd st from the end in each odd row starting from the 5th row of the rib, 8 times. Cast off.
Join side seams and sleeve seams. Set in sleeves.
Sew in a zipper.
