Ruched Baby Bonnet with Applied I-Cord

Free Baby Bonnet Knitting Pattern

Size: 12/18

Materials:
Araucania (affiliate link) Ranco Multi fingering weight yarn 376 yd (344 m)/100 gr, color #322 (A) - 1 skein
Lorna's Laces (affiliate link) Shephers Sock Solid 215 yds/197 m pe 57 gr skein - 1 skein. Color Natural. (B) - 1 skein
Lorna's Laces (affiliate link) Shephers Sock Solid 215 yds/197 m pe 57 gr skein - 1 skein. Color Pewter. (C) - 1 skein
You'll need small amounts of the last 2 yarns. Yarn A: 1 skein is enough for the cardigan and the bonnet.

Needles: 2 (2.75 mm) and 3 (3.25)  OR SIZE NEEDED TO OBTAIN GAUGE

Gauge for garter stitch: 20 st x 40 rows = 4" x 4" (10 x 10 cm)
Gauge for stocking stitch: 24 st x 32 rows = 4" x 4" (10 x 10 cm)

Patterns:

Stocking Stitch
1 row and all odd rows - knit sts
2 row and all even rows - purl sts

Garter Stitch
All rows - knit sts

Selvedge stitches
The 1st and last stitch of the pattern are selvedge stitches. To make the edges of your work even and smooth 2 more stitches (selvedge stitches) are added. You should always slip the first stitch as if to knit and purl the last stitch. The selvedge stitches are not counted in the pattern unless otherwise specified.

Directions:
With yarn C on needles #2 cast on 60 sts. Work garter stitch for 4 rows.
With yarn B work garter stitch for 4 rows.
With yarn C work garter stitch for 2 rows. Total 10 rows.
Row 11: with yarn A on needles #3 work stocking stitch: sl 1, *k 1-b, k 1 in the same stitch* repeat to the end of the row, end p1. (Now 118 sts).
Rows 12-20: stocking stitch.
Rows 21-28: on needles #2 garter stitch.
Row 21:  sl 1, k2tog to the end of the row, end p 1.
Rows 21-22: yarn C
Rows 23-26: yarn B
Rows 27-28: yarn C
Rows 29-38: repeat rows 11-20.
Rows 39-40: with yarn C on needles #2 repeat rows 21-22.
Rows 41-44: with yarn B garter stitch
Rows 45-64: garter stitch. Decrease evenly for 7 sts in every odd row.
Cut yarn, leaving a 10" (25 cm) tail. Pull through remaining sts and secure.


Finishing:

Join the back seam to the white stripe.
With yarn C work I-cord on 4 sts for 7" (18 cm).

Pick up sts along the bottom edge of the bonnet. Work applied I-cord on this stitches (see video instructions).
Work I-cord on 4 sts for 7" (18 cm). Cast off.
