Evening Dress with Ruffles for 18-inch Doll

Free Doll Dress Crochet Pattern

Materials: Knit Picks (affiliate link) Curio #10 crochet thread (100% cotton) 721 yards/100 gr, main color - Tea Rose, ruffle color - Ice Lily (affiliate link) - 1 ball each

Hooks: 1.5 mm for dress and 1.75 mm for ruffles.

Gauge: 13 V-st x 16 rows = 4” x 4” (10 cm x 10 cm)

Abbreviations and special stitches

ch - chain
sc - single crochet
dc - double crochet
V-st - V-stitch = (dc, ch 1, dc) in the same specified stitch
V-st in V-st - V-stitch in the ch-1-space of the V-st from the previous row/round
2dc cluster: Step 1: yo, insert hook in designated st, yo, draw yarn through st, yo, draw yarn through 2 loops on hook, 2 loops remain on hook. Step 2: yo, insert hook in the next designated st, yo, draw yarn through st, yo, draw yarn through 2 loops on hook, yo and draw hook through 3 loops on hook.
2dc cluster in the V-st: make 2dc cluster as described above, the first designated stitch is the first dc of the V-st, the next designated st is the second dc of the V-st.

Dress

The dress is worked top-down, first back and forth, then in the round.
The ruffles are worked first in rows, then in the round. The first row/round of the ruffle is worked with a smaller hook, after which one should switch to a larger one.

With hook 1.5 mm and the main color yarn, chain 59.

Yoke

Dress Row 1: ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), insert hook in the fifth ch from the hook, 1 dc in each of the next 6 chains, V-st in the next chain, 1 dc in each of the next 13 chains, V-st in the next ch, 1 dc in each of the next 15 chains, V-st in the next chain, 1 dc in each of the next 13 chains, V-st in the next chain, 1 dc in the last 7 chains. Turn.

Dress Row 2: ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), 1 dc in each of the next 7 dc, V-st in V-st, 1 dc in each of the next 15 dc, V-st in V-st, 1 dc in each of the next 17 dc, V-st in V-st, 1 dc in each of the next 15 dc, V-st in V-st, 1 dc in each of the next 8 dc. Turn.

Dress Row 3: ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), *1 dc in the next dc, ch 1, skip the next dc - repeat from * 4 times, V-st in V-st, *ch 1, skip 1 dc, dc in the next dc - repeat from * 8 times, skip the next dc, ch 1, V-st in V-st, *ch 1, skip 1 dc, dc in the next dc - repeat from * 9 times, skip the next dc, ch 1, V-st in V-st, *ch 1, skip 1 dc, dc in the next dc - repeat from * 8 times, skip the next dc, ch 1, V-st in V-st, *ch 1, skip 1 dc, dc in the next dc - repeat from * 3 times, skip the next dc, ch 1, 1 dc in each of the last 2 dc. Dress Row 4: ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), dc in the next dc, dc in the next ch-1-space, V-st in each ch-1-space to the last 3 stitches, 1 dc in the last ch-1-space, 1 dc in each of the last 2 dc. Turn.

Dress Rows 5, 6 and 7: ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), 1 dc in each of the next 2 dc, 1 V-st in each V-st (38 V-sts), 1 dc in the last 3 dc. Turn.

Dress Row 8: ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), 1 dc in each of the next 3 dc, *ch 1 over ch-1-space of the V-st, dc in the next 2 dc - repeat from * 3 times, V-st in the next V-st, *1 dc in each of the next 2 dc, ch 1 over ch-1-space of the V-st - repeat from * 9 times, 1 dc in the next 2 dc, V-st in V-st, *1 dc in each of the next 2 dc, ch 1 over ch-1-space of the V-st - repeat from * 10 times, 1 dc in the next 2 dc, V-st in V-st, *1 dc in each of the next 2 dc, ch 1 over ch-1-space of the V-st - repeat from *9 times, 1 dc in the next 2 dc, V-st in V-st, *1 dc in each of the next 2 dc, ch 1 over ch-1-space of the V-st - repeat from * 3 times, dc in each of the last 4 dc. Divide for sleeves and bodice

Dress Row 10: ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), 1 dc in each of the next 3 dc, *ch 1 over ch-1-space, dc in each of the next 2 dc - repeat from * 3 times, ch 1 over ch-1-space, dc in the next dc, V-st in V-st, sc in the next dc, sc in the next ch-1-space,*chain 5, skip 2 dc, sc in the next ch-1-space - repeat from * 10 times.

Turn and work back: *5 sc into ch-5-space, sc in sc - repeat 10 times. Turn.



Chain 6, fold the working piece, skip all the scs just made and sc in the last ch-1-space before the second V-st, sc in the next dc, V-st in the V-st, dc in the next dc, *ch 1 over ch-1-space, dc in each of the next 2 dc - repeat from * 11 times, ch 1 over ch-1-space, dc in the next dc, V-st in V-st, sc in the next dc, sc in the next ch-1-space, *ch 5, skip the next 2 dc, sc in the next ch-1-space - repeat from * 10 times.

Turn and work back: *5 sc into ch-5-space, sc in sc - repeat 10 times. Turn.

Chain 6, fold the working piece, skip all the scs just made and sc in the last ch-1-space before the fourth V-st, sc in the next dc, V-st in the V-st, dc in the next dc, *ch 1 over ch-1-space, dc in each of the next 2 dc - repeat from * 3 times, ch 1 over ch-1-space, dc in each of the last 4 dc. Turn.



Dress Row 11: ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), 1 dc in the next dc, V-st in the next dc, 1 dc in each of the next 5 ch-1-spaces, V-st in the next sc, 1 V-st in the 2nd, 4th and 6th chains on the ch-6-space, V-st in each of the next 13 ch-1-spaces, V-st in the next sc, 1 V-st in the 2nd, 4th and 6th chains on the ch-6-space,1 dc in each of the next 5 ch-1-spaces, V-st in the next dc, 1 dc in each of the last 2 dc. Turn.



Attach thread in the contrast color, but DO NOT cut the main thread. Continue with the thread of contrast color, the first row of the ruffle work with hook 1.5 mm, then change to hook 1.75 mm.

Ruffle in rows

Ruffle Row 1 (with 1.5mm hook): ch 3, *2 dc-cluster in the next V-st, ch 2 repeat from * across, 2dc-cluster in the last 2 dc.

Ruffle Row 2 (with 1.75mm hook): ch 3, dc into ch-2-space, ch 1, 2 dc into the same ch-2-space, *ch 2, sc into the next ch-2-space, ch 2, 2 dc into the next ch-2-space, ch 1, 2 dc into the same ch-2-space - repeat from * to the last ch-2-space, (2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc) into the last ch-2-space. Turn.

Ruffle Row 3: ch 3, 1 dc in the next dc, (1 dc, ch 3, 1 dc) in ch-1-space, 1 dc in each of the next 2 dc , *ch 1, skip (ch2-sc-ch2) space, 1 dc in each of the next 2 dc, (1 dc, ch 3, 1 dc) in ch-1-space, 1 dc in each of the next 2 dc - repeat from * to the end of the row. Turn.

Ruffle Row 4: *ch 3, skip 1 stitch, sc in the next st - repeat to the end. Turn.

Ruffle Row 5: ch 1,* 3 sc into each ch-3-space - repeat across. Tie off. Cut ruffle thread.

Press the ruffle now. Do not press the dress.

Dress

Use the 1.5 mm hook to pick up the main color thread. Fold the ruffle back onto the dress. Start crocheting into the last row of the dress.

Dress Row 12: ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), 1 dc in the next dc, ch 1, 1 V-st in each of the next 33 V-sts, ch 1, 1 dc in each of the last 2 dc. Turn.

Dress Row 13: ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), 1 dc in the next dc, V-st in the ch-1-space, V-st in each of the next 33 V-sts, V-st in the next ch-1-space, 1 dc in each of the last 2 dc. Turn.

Dress Rows 14-16: ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), 1 dc in the next dc, V-st in each of the next 35 V-sts, 1 dc in each of the last 2 dc. Turn.

Dress Row 17: ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), 1 dc in the next dc, V-st in each of the next 35 V-sts, 1 V-st in each of the last 2 dc. Join with slip stitch into round.

Continue the dress in-the-round.

Dress Round 1: ch 4 (counts as 1 dc and ch 1), 1 dc in the same dc, V-st in each of the next 37 V-sts. Join with slip stitch.
After the first round we work the next ruffle, DO NOT cut the main color thread.

Ruffle in-the-round (contrast color thread, hook 1.75 mm):

Ruffle Round 1: attach contrast color thread. *2-dc cluster in V-st, ch 2 - repeat from * across the round. Join with slip stitch.

Ruffle Round 2: ch 3, dc into ch-2-space, ch 1, 2 dc into the same ch-1-space, *ch 2, sc into the next ch-2-space, ch 2, (2 dc into the next ch-2-space, ch 1, 2 dc into the same ch-2-space) - repeat from * across the round. Join with slip stitch.

Ruffle Round 3: ch 3, 1 dc in the next dc, (1 dc, ch 3, 1 dc) into ch-1-space, 1 dc in each of the next 2 dc, *ch 1, skip (ch2-sc-ch2) space, 1 dc in each of the next 2 dc, (1 dc, ch 3, 1 dc) into ch-1-space, 1 dc in each of the next 2 dc - repeat from * across the round, join with slip stitch.

Ruffle Round 4: *ch 3, skip 1 stitch, sc in the next st - repeat from * across the round, join with slip stitch.

Ruffle Round 5: ch 1,* 3 sc into each ch-3-space - repeat from * across the round. Tie off. Cut ruffle thread.

Press the ruffle now. Do not press the dress.


Dress

Fold the ruffle back onto the dress and continue with the thread of the main color. Work V-st in each V-st across the round like in round 1.

Work rounds 2-8 of the dress as round 1. Tie off, but do not cut the thread.

Ruffle: Work ruffle with contrast thread as described above.

Work rounds 9-15 of the dress as round 1. Tie off, cut the main thread.

Ruffle: Work ruffle with contrast thread as described above.

Button band

Attach the main color thread to the bottom left edge of the opening in the dress and work a row of sc along the edge. Turn, *ch 3, skip the next 3 sc, 1 sc in each of the next 4 sc – repeat from * to the end.

Finishing

Weave in the ends of threads. Sew small buttons to the right edge of the dress opening, to line up with the button holes.


Matching Bag

Hook 1.5 mm

The bag is made of 2 square motifs, worked with the main color, then connected with the contrast color.

Square motif

With main color thread chain 5, join into round with slip stitch.

Round 1: ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), 2 dc in the circle, *ch 3, 3 dc in the circle repeat 3 times, ch 3, join in the round with slip stitch.

Round 2: ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), 1 dc in each of the next 2 dc, 2 dc into ch-3-space, *ch 3, 2 dc into ch-3-space, 1 dc in each of the next 3 dc, 2 dc into ch-3-space - repeat 3 times, ch 3, 2 dc into ch-3-space, join with slip stitch.

Round 3: ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), 1 dc in each of the next 4 dc, 2 dc into ch-3-space, *ch 3, 2 dc into ch-3-space, 1 dc in each of the next 7 dc, 2 dc into ch-3-space - repeat 3 times, ch 3, 2 dc into ch-3-space, 1 dc in each of the last 2 dc, join with slip stitch.

Round 4: ch 1, sc in each dc, 3 sc into the ch-3-space across the round. Tie off. Cut thread.

Make 2 motifs. Place them together and align the edges. With contrast color thread, make sc through back loops of each sc of both motifs on 3 sides, thus joining them together. When you reach the fourth side, continue making sc in each dc along the upper edge of the first motif, then along the upper edge of the second motif, working in the round.
Join the round with the slip stitch. Then chain as many stitches as you need to make a handle 5 - 5 1/2" long. With sc, fasten the chain to the other side of the upper edge of the bag. Turn. Work 1 sc in each chain of the handle.
Then continue along the sides of the bag: *sc in sc, skip the next sc, (2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc) in the next sc, skip the next sc - repeat from * along the edge of 3 sides of the bag.
Tie off. Cut the thread. Weave in the ends.
