Autumn Lace Dress for 18-inch Doll

Difficulty level: *** Intermediate

Free Doll Dress Crochet Pattern

This crochet dress is perfect for your doll to wear in the early Fall, when the leaves are starting to change color, but it’s still warm enough for skirts. With a different choice of colors, this would make a great summer dress also. I decorated the dress with leaf-shaped buttons.

Materials: Veil by Willow Yarns 306 yards(280 meters)/ 50 g size 10 Cotton Thread: color: Basil (MC); color Dandelion (A), color Ginger (B). 1 ball of each color will be enough to crochet 3 doll dresses in different color combinations.
Metallic or plastic sew-on snaps.

Hook: steel hook #2 (1.5 mm) OR SIZE NEEDED TO OBTAIN GAUGE.

Gauge: 32 dc = 4" (10 cm)

Abbreviations:
Dc - double crochet
Sc – single crochet
Ch – chain
sl st - slip stitch
V-st - V-stitch: dc-ch1-dc in the indicated stitch
RS - right side
WS - wrong side

Dress

The dress is worked top-down back and forth to the hip line, leaving an opening at the back. Then, you can either continue in rows, or, if you are an experienced crocheter, in rounds. Here I describe how to work the skirt in rows, and provide some tips if you wanted to work in rounds. The groups of 3 dc in the beginning and 3 dc at the end of each row form a button band. Feel free to substitute colors to your taste.

Chain 3 in the beginning of each row counts as I dc. Chain 2 in the beginning of each row counts as 1 sc.

Crochet rows 26-28 the same as rows 23-25.

Row 29: ch 2, 1 sc in each stitch across. At the end of this row you can either turn and continue in rows or, if you are an experienced crocheter, join the skirt into a round in the following way: make sc to the last 3 sts of the button band: work the next sc, insert the hook in the first st of the right side button band and connect with a slip stitch; in the same way, work the remaining 2 sts of the button band. If you work in rounds, omit the button band sts in the beginning and in the end of each row, work *1 sc, ch 3* over the button band stitches in the first round, then continue the pattern as established.

Row 30: ch 3, 1 dc in each of the next 2 dc, ch 2, 1 sc in the next sc, *ch 3, skip 3 sc, 1 sc in the next sc - repeat from * to last 3 sts, ch 2, 1 dc in each of the last 3 dc. Turn.

Row: 34: ch 3, 1 dc in each of the next 2 dc, *ch 1, 4 dc in the ch-4 space - repeat from * to ch-2 space, ch 1 over ch-2 space, 1 dc in each of the past 3 dc. Turn.

Repeat rows 32-34 two more times: rows 35-40.
