-Decreasing (knit 2 together, slip-slip-knit)

-Picking-up stitches

-Working in the round on double pointed needles

Materials: Knit Picks (affiliate link) Palette fingering weight 100% wool yarn 231 yds (210 m)/ 50 g, color Red– 1 ball
4 stitch markers, 2 pieces of waste yarn, 7 small buttons

Needles: US #1 (2.25 mm) circular needles and double pointed needles (dpn) for sleeves, OR SIZE NEEDED TO OBTAIN GAUGE.

Gauge: 30 sts x 44 rows = 4” x 4” (10 cm x 10 cm) in stockinette st.

Abbreviations:
k - knit
p - purl
k2tog - knit 2 together
ssk – slip, slip, knit (left slanting decrease): slip 1 stitch knitwise from left needle to right needle, knit the next stitch, insert the tip of the LH needle into the slipped stitch and bring it over the knitted stitch.
sl 1 - k2tog – psso - slip 1 – knit 2 together - pass slipped stitch over
psso - pass slipped stitch over is a 2 stitch decrease, here it’s made in the following way: slip 1 stitch knitwise from left needle to right needle, knit the next 2 stitches together, insert the tip of the LH needle into the slipped stitch and bring it over the knitted 2 stitches.
pu&k- pick up and knit
co – cast on
m1 - make 1 increase - I used the increase described by Elizabeth Zimmerman: make a backward loop over the right-hand needle and in the next row/round purl/knit as a regular stitch.
RS - right side
WS - wrong side
sm - slip marker

Pattern Notes:

Garter stitch in rows: All rows knit

Stockinette in rows:
Row 1 (RS): knit
Row 2: purl
Repeat 2 rows.

Stockinette in rounds:
All rounds knit.

2x2 rib in rows:
Row 1: * k2, p2 – repeat from * to the end of row;
Row 2: *p2, k2 - repeat from * to the end of row. Repeat 2 rows.

2x2 rib in rounds:
all rounds: *k2, p2 – repeat from * to the ends of the row.

The selvedge/edge stitches are worked as follows: knit the first st and purl the last one.

Raglan: All increases for raglan are done in odd/right side (RS) rows in the following way:
Work until 1 stitch remains before the marker, m1, knit 2 (the marker is between these 2 stitches, slip marker while working), m1. Repeat on all raglan lines, thus 8 stitches are added in each RS row. In each following wrong side row, purl the m1 stitches.

Button bands (bb) are worked together with the body of the cardigan in garter stitch, all rows knit.

Button holes are worked on the right bb in the beginning of the WS (wrong side) row: 1 edge, k1, yo, k 2 tog. In the next row all sts knit. Make button holes in the 4th, 14th, 24th, 34th, 44th, 54 and 64th rows

Cardigan

The cardigan is worked top-down back-and-forth, with raglan sleeves and button band on the front. The sleeves are worked on dpn in the round.

Yoke

Cast on 58 stitches.

Work 4 rows in 2 x 2 rib pattern in the following way:

Row 1 (RS): k1 (selvedge), k3 (button band), *k 2, p2 – repeat from * to the last 4 stitches, k 3, p 1.

Row 2 (WS): k1 (selvedge), k3 (button band), *p 2, k2 – repeat from * to the last 4 stitches, k 3, p 1.

Repeat rows 1-2 one more time.

Check the stitches and place the markers as follows:

1 edge - 3 button band - 5 right front - 2 raglan sts (place the 1st marker between these 2 sts) - 10 right sleeve - 2 raglan sts (place the 2nd marker between these 2 sts) - 12 back - 2 raglan sts (place the 3rd marker between these 2 sts) - 10 left sleeve - 2 raglan sts (place the 4th marker between these 2 sts) - 5 left front - 3 sts button band, 1 edge st.

Row 5 (RS) and all odd/RS rows: *knit all sts until 1 stitch remains before the marker, m1, knit 1, sm, k1, m1 -repeat from * four times, knit all sts to the last st, p1. (+ 8 sts after every RS row).

Row 6 and all even/WS rows: k 4, purl all sts to the last 4, k3, p1.

Repeat rows 5 and 6 twelve more times. After row 30 the number of stitches is 162.

Divide for sleeves and bodice

Row 31: k 23 , transfer the next 38 sts to a piece of waste yarn, co 4, k 40 , transfer the next 38 sts to a piece of waste yarn, co 4, k 22, p 1. = 94 sts

Row 32: k 4, purl all stitches, including the cast on ones, to the last 4, k3, p1.

Work as established (in stockinette, button bands in garter st, don't forget about the button holes every 10th row) till row 60, or to desired length.

Rows 60-68: k 4, work 2x2 rib till the last 4 sts, k3, 1 p.

Bind off.

Sleeve

Transfer 38 stitches from waste yarn to dpn, distribute evenly. Pick up and knit (pu&k) 4 sts underarm. = 42 sts. Mark the beginning of the round by marker between the 2 and 2 picked up sts. Slip marker while working.

Knit 4 rounds.

Round 5: k2tog, knit all sts to last 2, ssk = 40 sts

Knit 26 more rounds, at the same time in every fifth round (rounds 10, 15, 20, 25 and 30) make decreases in the following way: k2tog, knit to the last 2 sts, ssk the last 2 stitches. Thus after round 30 you'll have 28 sts left.

Rounds 32-40: *k2, p2 - repeat from * to the end of the round.

Bind off.

Finishing

Weave in the ends of yarn. Sew on 7 buttons.

Have fun!
