Doll-Sized Pet Bed

Free Crochet Pattern

This is a super simple and quick pattern of a pet bed proportionally sized for the American Girl Doll or similar sized dolls. It consists of the basket and a removable round cushion.

Skills Required/Techniques Used:
- Basic crochet stitches: chain (ch), single crochet (sc), double crochet (dc), half double crochet (hdc), slip stitch (sl.st)
- Post stitch, front and back

Measurements: diameter 7” (18 cm), height 2” (5 cm)

Materials: Bernat (affiliate link) Handicrafter Cotton Colonial Colors worsted weight yarn (100% Cotton ), 710 yds (649 m) / 400 grams, color Queen Anne’s Lace - 0.25 skeins or less (B).
Bernat (affiliate link) Handicrafter Cotton Ombres & Prints worsted weight yarn (100% Cotton ), 608 yds (556 m) / 340 grams, color Terra Firma - 0.25 skeins or less (A).
Small amount of polyester stuffing.

Hook: H (5.0 mm) OR SIZE NEEDED TO OBTAIN GAUGE

Gauge: 7 dc = 2” (5 cm)

Short Overview of the Pattern:

The basket is worked in-the-round. The side of the basket is crocheted double to better hold its shape. The cushion is also worked in-the-round and consists of 2 crocheted circles, connected at the edge and stuffed with filling.

Basket

With color A. Chain 6 sts and join into round with sl.st.

Rnd 1: ch 3 (counts as dc), 11 dc into the ring, sl st to ch 3 = 12 dc

Rnd 2: ch 3 (counts as dc), 1 dc in the same st, 2 dc in each of the 11 sts around, sl st to ch 3 = 24 dc.

Rnd 3: ch 3 (counts as dc), 1 dc in the same st, 1 dc in the next dc,* 2 dc in the next dc, 1 dc in the next dc repeat from * around, sl st to ch 3 = 36 dc

Rnd 4: ch 3 (counts as dc), 1 dc in the same st, 1 dc in each of the next 2 dc, *2 dc in the next dc, 1 dc in each of the next 2 dc - repeat from * around, sl st to ch 3 = 48 dc

Rnd 5: ch 3 (counts as dc), 1 dc in the same dc, 1 dc in each of the next 3 dc,* 2 dc in the next dc, 1 dc in each of the next 3 dc - repeat from * around, sl st to ch 3 = 60 dc.

Rnd 6: ch 3 (counts as dc), 1 dc in the same dc, 1 dc in each of the next 4 dc, *2 dc in the next dc, 1 dc in each of the next 4 dc - repeat from * around, sl st to ch 3 = 72 dc.

Rnd 7: ch 3 (counts as dc), 1 dc in the same st, 1 dc in each of the next 5 dc, *2 dc in the next st, 1 dc in each of the next 5 dc - repeat from * around, sl st to ch 3 = 84 dc.

Rnd 8: ch 3 (counts as dc), 1 FPdc into each dc around, sl st to ch-3.

Rnd 9: ch 3 (counts as dc), 1 dc into each FPdc around, sl st to ch-3.

Rnds 10-12: ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), 1 dc in each dc around, sl st to ch-3.

Rnd 13: ch 1 (counts as sc), work FPsc into each dc around, sl st to ch-1.

Rnd 14: ch 3 (counts as dc), 1 dc into each FPsc around, sl st to ch-3.

Rnds 15-16: ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), 1 dc in each dc around, sl st to ch-3. Tie off.

Fold the side along the FPsc round. Secure.


Cushion

Front

With color B. Chain 6 sts and join into round with sl.st.

Rnd 1: ch 3 (counts as dc), 11 dc into the ring, sl st to ch 3 = 12 dc

Rnd 2: ch 3 (counts as dc), 1 dc in the same st, 2 dc in each of the 11 sts around, sl st to ch 3 = 24 dc.

Rnd 3: ch 3 (counts as dc), 1 dc in the same st, 1 dc in the next dc,* 2 dc in the next dc, 1 dc in the next dc repeat from * around, sl st to ch 3 = 36 dc

Rnd 4: ch 3 (counts as dc), 1 dc in the same st, 1 dc in each of the next 2 dc, *2 dc in the next dc, 1 dc in each of the next 2 dc - repeat from * around, sl st to ch 3 = 48 dc

Rnd 5: ch 3 (counts as dc), 1 dc in the same dc, 1 dc in each of the next 3 dc,* 2 dc in the next dc, 1 dc in each of the next 3 dc - repeat from * around, sl st to ch 3 = 60 dc.

Rnd 6: ch 3 (counts as dc), 1 dc in the same dc, 1 dc in each of the next 4 dc, *2 dc in the next dc, 1 dc in each of the next 4 dc - repeat from * around, sl st to ch 3 = 72 dc.

Rnd 7: ch 3 (counts as dc), 1 dc in the same st, 1 dc in each of the next 5 dc, *2 dc in the next st, 1 dc in each of the next 5 dc - repeat from * around, sl st to ch 3 = 84 dc.

Rnd 8: ch 3 (counts as dc), 1 BPdc into each dc around, sl st to ch-3. Tie off.


Back

With yarn B.

Work rounds 1-7 from the Front instructions. Do not tie off.

Place the front and the back of the cushion WS to WS, align the edges. Insert the hook into the dc on the back, then in dc on the front, yarn over (yo), draw yarn through both sts (2 lps on the hook), yo and draw through both loops on the hook (connecting sc is finished). Continue to connect both parts in this way, crocheting sc around, and stopping 5 sts before the end of the round. Stuff the cushion with the filling through the opening. Finish the round, tie off and secure the end.


Finishing

Weave in ends.
