Free Doll Skirt Crochet Pattern
This short skirt features a chevron motif. It was originally conceived as part of a figure skating outfit, but would also be great for a cheerleading or tennis outfit, or just as a casual skirt for your doll.

FINISHED SIZE: to fit 18-inch dolls with soft body, such as American Girl Doll, Our Generation, My Life As, etc.
Materials: Bernat (affiliate link) Handicrafter crochet thread size 5, 100% acrylic, 85 g/3oz 339/371 yards. Bright white and red
Hook: 2.25 mm OR SIZE NEEDED TO OBTAIN GAUGE.
Gauge: 7 dc = 1" (2.5 cm)

Abbreviations:
st, sts - stitch, stitches
sc - single crochet
dc - double crochet

sp - space
sl.st. - slip stitch
yoh - yarn over hook
RS - right side

3-dc-cluster worked over 3 adjacent stitches: work a dc into each of the next 3 stitches leaving the last loop of each dc on the hook. Yarn over and draw through all four loops on the hook.
2-dc-cluster worked over 2 adjacent stitches: work a dc into each of the next 2 stitches leaving the last loop of each dc on the hook. Yarn over and draw through all three loops on the hook.
3-dc-shell - 3 dc in one dc
5-dc-shell - 5 dc in one dc
BPdc - back post double crochet : yo, insert hook around post of next stitch at back of work from right to left and draw the loop. (Yo and draw 2 loops on hook) twice.
FPdc - front post double crochet: yo and draw up a loop around post of next stitch at front of work, inserting hook from right to left. (Yo and draw through 2 loops on hook) twice.
Rib Pattern:
Round 1: dc in every stitch around.
Round 2: *1 BPdc in the dc, 1 FPdc in the next dc - repeat from * around.
Repeat round 2 to desired length.
Short Overview of the Pattern:
Skirt is worked top-down in rounds without seams. The belt is worked in a rib pattern and the skirt is worked in a chevron pattern: 2 rounds in red, 1 round in white.
Skirt
With red thread chain 70 sts. Join the round with sl. st.
Round 1: ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), dc in each ch of the round, join the round with sl.st. (70 dc)
Rounds 2-4 work in rib pattern: *1 BPdc in the dc, 1 FPdc in the next dc - repeat from * around. Join the round with sl. st.
Round 5: ch 3 (counts as 1 dc),*dc in each of the next 2 dc, 2 dc in the next dc, dc in the next dc, 2 dc in the next dc - repeat from * 12 times, *1 dc in each of the next 2 dc, 2 dc in the next dc - repeat from * 2 times, 1 dc in each of the last 3 dc. Join with sl. st. (96 dc)
