Free Neck Warmer Knitting Pattern
This is an easy 1-skein project. The neck warmer features a simple but attractive lace pattern. If you prefer, you can easily turn it into a cowl by sewing the short sides together, or continue it into a scarf, if you have more yarn.
Skills Required/Techniques Used:
- Knit & purl, cast on & bind off.
- Increasing: yarn over (YO).
- Decreasing: knit 2 together (k2tog), slip-slip-knit (ssk), pass slipped stitch over (psso).
Size: length 30” (75 cm), width 8.5” (21 cm)
Materials: Multicolor by Filatura Di Crosa (affiliate link) worsted weight yarn, 50 gr/1.7 oz, 60% mohair, 40 % acrylic, 180m/198yds, color 4100 – 1 ball
Needles: straight US #6 (4.0 mm) OR SIZE NEEDED TO OBTAIN GAUGE
Gauge: gauge is not very important, just keep in mind that with larger gauge the neck warmer will be wider and looser, with smaller gauge - narrower and denser.
18 sts x 24 rows = 4" x 4" (10cm x 10cm)
Notions: yarn needle.
Abbreviations:
k - knit
p - purl
sl1-k2tog-psso - slip 1 st knitwise to the right needle, knit the next 2 sts together, pass the slipped stitch over (2 sts decrease).
k2tog - knit 2 together
ssk (slip, slip, knit) Slip next 2 sts as if to knit, one at a time, to right needle; insert left needle into fronts of these 2 sts and knit them tog – 1 st decreased.
yo - yarn over
RS - right side
WS - wrong side

Garter stitch in rows: all rows knit.

Multiple of 6 sts plus 1
Row 1 (WS): K2, *p3, k3 - repeat from *, end p3, k2.
Row 2 (RS): P2, *k3, p3 - repeat from *, end k3, p2.
Row 3: like row 1.
Row 4: K2, *yo, sl1-k2tog-psso, yo, k3 - repeat from *, ends yo, sl1 - k2tog-psso, yo, k2.
Row 5: P2, * k3, p3 - repeat from *, end k3, p2.
Row 6: K2, *p3, k3 - repeat from *, end p3, k2.
Row 7: like row 5.
Row 8: k2tog, *yo, k3, yo, sl1-k2tog-psso, repeat from *, end yo, k3, yo, ssk.
Repeat row 1-8.
The selvedge/edge stitches are worked as follows: in a row, slip the first stitch and purl the last one.

The rectangular neck warmer is started and finished with 5 rows in garter stitch. It has borders, also worked in garter stitch over 2 sts in the beginning and end of each row.

Cast on 43 sts: (36+1) for the lace pattern, 2 edge sts, 4 border sts.
Rows 1-5: sl1, k41, p1.
Row 6 (WS): (sl1, k2)- border, k2, *p3, k3 - repeat from * 5 times, p3, k2, (k2, p1)- border.
Row 7 (RS): (sl1, k2)- border, p2, *k3, p3 - repeat from * 5 times, k3, p2, (k2, p1)- border
Row 8: like row 6
Row 9: (sl1, k2)- border, k2, *yo, sl1- k2tog - psso, yo, k3 - repeat from * 5 times, yo, sl1- k2tog - psso, yo k2, (k2, p1)- border

Repeat rows 6-13 twenty five (25) times, or to desired length.
Work 5 rows in garter stitch.
Bind off, cut yarn.
Finishing:
Weave in all yarn ends.
