Free Baby Blanket Knitting Pattern
The Two Pianos Baby Blanket is a unique and fun knitting project that creates a cozy and visually interesting blanket for a little one. It is made up of 5 panels that are knitted separately and then sewn together to create the look of two piano keyboards. The panels can be made in a variety of colors, so you can customize the blanket to your preference. The blanket is worked in garter stitch, and it is suitable for beginner knitters.
After you have completed all 5 panels, it's time to sew them together to create the look of two piano keyboards. Your own preferred method of seaming. Alternatively, you can connect the panels using 3-needle-bind-off method.

The blanket is made of 5 long narrow separate panels, that are then connected together either by sewing or by 3-needle bind-off method. 3 panels are solid color and 2 panels are striped. Sewn together, they look like two pianos.
Blanket
Solid Panel
Cast on 30 sts with color A and knit a foundation row. Turn.
Row 1: sl 1, knit to the last st, p 1. Turn.
Repeat row 1 257 times. Total 259 rows or 130 ridges.
Bind off.
Work two more panels, one with yarn B, another with yarn C.
Striped Panel:
Cast on 30 sts with color B and knit a foundation row. Turn.
Row 1: sl 1, knit to the last st, p 1. Turn.
Repeat row 1 as follows:
18 rows – yarn B (9 more ridges)
20 rows yarn A (10 ridges)
20 rows yarn B (10 ridges)
Repeat 20 rows with yarn A and 20 rows with yarn B five (5) more times, until you have 7 stripes of yarn B. Total 259 rows.
Bind off
Work another striped panel with yarn C instead of yarn B.
Connecting the panels:
If you are going to hand sew the panels, position the striped panel with the solid panel RS to RS (see pictures), align and sew them together. Repeat for other panels.
3-needle bind-off method of connecting the parts.
3-needle bind-off is done on the wrong side (WS).
With RS facing, using yarn A and a pair of long circular needles, pick up and knit 132 sts (130 selvedge chains plus two edge sts) along the side of one of the solid panels. Repeat for a striped panel, using another pair of long circular needles. Align both panels, RS to RS, and work 3-needle bind off as shown in the video:
Repeat for other panels.
Finishing:
Weave in all yarn ends.
