Bernat's Knit or Knot is a skein that contains a variety of yarn strands cut into 2 1/2 yard long pieces. Yarns are color-matched to each other. Instead of this pack, you can use fancy yarn left-overs from your stash.
Gauge is not important.
Pattern Note:
Garter stitch - all rows knit.
Short overvew of the pattern:
The scarf is worked sideways. It is made with wool yarn (basic yarn), fancy yarn strands are added to the basic yarn at the beginning of each row and in the middle of every other row in a random fashion.
With wool yarn, cast on 150 sts and knit the first row.
Row 2: take a piece of a fancy yarn, leaving a 10" long tail. Start the second row with 2 strands of yarn (basic and fancy). The fancy yarn piece will end about the middle of the row. Finish the row with the basic yarn only.
Row 3: like row 2
Row 4: take a piece of a fancy yarn, leaving a 10" long tail. Start the row with 2 strands of yarn (basic and fancy). The fancy yarn piece will end about the middle of the row. When the fancy yarn ends, take another piece of fancy yarn and continue to knit with 2 yarns.
Repeat rows 2-4 until the width of the scarf is 8" (20cm).
Knit the last row in basic yarn and cast off.
Trim the fringe.
