Free Scarf Knitting Pattern
This pattern was inspired by the technique from the wonderful book Shadow Knitting by Vivian Hoxbro.
Size: 58" x 7.5" (147 cm x 19 cm)

--Knit & purl, cast on & bind off
Materials:
Elann (affiliate link) Peruvian Highland Wool worsted weight yarn, color Black, 50 g / 100 m (109 yards) - 2 skeins. (A)
Elann (affiliate link) Peruvian Highland Wool worsted weight yarn, color Light Grey Heather, 50 g / 100 m (109 yards) - 2 skeins. (B)
Needles: 4 (3.5 mm) OR SIZE NEEDED TO OBTAIN GAUGE
Gauge: 16 st x 30 rows = 4" x 4" (10 x 10 cm)
Pattern Notes:
Edge stitches: slip the first st in a row and purl the last one.
Short Overview of the Pattern:
The scarf is worked sideways with yarns of 2 contrasting colors which alternate every 2 rows.
Directions
With yarn A cast on 242 sts and work the first 3 rows with this yarn.
Row 1 (foundation): sl1, k to last st, p1
Row 2: repeat row 1.
Row 3: sl 1, (10 k, 10 p) repeat 12 times, 1 p.
Row 4 with yarn B: sl1, k to last st, p1
Row 5: sl 1, (10 p, 10 k) repeat 12 times, 1 p.
Repeat rows 2-5 twelve more times times.
Repeat rows 2-3 with yarn A one more time.
The last row: sl1, k to last st, p1. Bind off.
Finishing:
Weave in yarn ends. Make fringe from A and B yarns.
