Free Doll Kerchief Knitting Pattern

Skills Required/Techniques Used:

-Knit & purl, cast on & bind off

-Increasing:yarn over (YO), knit front and back (kfr&b)

-Decreasing: knit 2 together (k2tog)

-Working in the round on circular needles

-Basic crocheting (chain, single crochet stitch)

Materials: Regia (affiliate link) sock fingering weight wool yarn #5160 210 m/50g - 0.5 ball.

Needles: US#1 (2.00 mm) circular needles OR SIZE NEEDED TO OBTAIN GAUGE.

Gauge: 22 x 32 = 4" x 4" (10 x 10 cm)

Notions: yarn needle, crochet hook 2.00-2.5 mm, 5 stitch markers, 2 pieces of waste yarn.

Abbreviations:

K – knit

P – purl

St, sts – stitch, stitches

yo - yarn over

k2tog - knit 2 together

kfr&b - knit front and back

co – cast on

RS – right side

WS – wrong side

sm - slip marker

ch - chain

sc - single crochet

Pattern Notes:

Stockinette Stitch in rounds: all rounds knit

Sweater:

The sweater is worked top-down in rounds without seams.

Cast on 68 sts, join and continue to work in rounds, place a marker at the beginning of the round, slip marker while working. The beginning of the round is in the mibble of the back.

Rounds 1-2: knit.
Round 3 (eyelet round): *k2tog, yo* repeat to the end of the round.
Rounds 4-5: knit.

Check sts (=68) and place 4 raglan markers : 10 (right back) - 1 (the first raglan line, place a marker before this st) - 12 (right sleeve) - 1 (the second raglan line, place another marker before this st) - 20 (front) - 1 (the third raglan line, place another marker before this st) - 12 (left sleeve) - 1 (the forth raglan line, place another marker before this st) - 10 (left back). = 68 sts

Round 6 and all even rounds: slip the beg. marker, *knit till the raglan marker, yo, sm, k1, yo - repeat from * 4 times, k the remaining sts. till the end of the round. (+8 sts)

Round 7 and all odd rounds: knit

Repeat rounds 6-7 eight more times.

After round 6 the number of sts = 76 sts

After round 8 = 84 sts

After round 10 = 92 sts

After round 12 = 100 sts

After round 14 = 108 sts

After round 16 = 116 sts

AFter round 18 = 124 sts

After round 20 = 132 sts

After round 22 = 140 sts

Divide for sleeves and bodice:

Round 24: sm, k20, transfer the next 30 sts (right sleeve) to a piece of waste yarn, k40, transfer the next 30 sts (left sleeve) to a piece of waste yarn , k20. = 80 sts

Continue to work the bodice in rounds until desired length.
Work crochet chain bind off: *insert hook in 3 sts, pull the yarn through 3 sts and work 1 sc, ch3, repeat from * to the end of the round.
In the same way, bind off the sleeve stitches.

Alternatively, you can make a regular bind off with needles.

Finishing:
Weave in all yarn ends. Insert a cord, a trim or a ribbon into eyelets along the neck line. Put the top on a doll, pull the ends of the ribbon and tie in a bow.

American Girl Doll Kerchief

Yarn: Regia (affiliate link) sock fingering weight wool yarn #5160 210 m/50g - 0.25 ball.
Some white yarn for the ruffle.

Needles circular #1 (2.00 mm)

Crochet hook 2.00 mm

Gauge: 22 x 32 = 4" x 4" (10 x 10 cm)

Pattern Notes:

Stockinette Stitch:
Row 1 (RS and all RS rows): knit
Row 2 (WS and all WS rows): purl

Repeat 2 rows

The selvedge/edge stitches are worked as follows: knit the first stitch and purl the last one.

Directions:
Cast on 3 sts.

Row 1 (RS): k2, p1.

Row 2 (WS): k1, p2.

Row 3 (RS and all RS rows, increase rows): k1, kfr&b, k to last st, p1. (+1 st)

Row 4 (WS and all WS rows): k1, purl all sts to the end of the row.

Repeat rows 3 and 4 sixteen more times. By row 37 you'll have 20 sts on the needles.
Row 37 (RS and all RS rows, decreasing rows): k1, k2tog, k all sts till the last st, p1. (-1 st)

Row 38 (WS and all WS rows): k1, purl all sts to the end of the row.
Repeat rows 37 and 38 sixteen more times, until 3 sts left. Work 2 rows with 3 sts on the needles. Bind off.

Ruffle:
With white yarn pick up 96 sts along the lower edge of the kerchief.
Row 1 (WS): purl.
Row 2 (RS): k2, *k2tog, yo* repeat to the last 2 sts, k2.
Row 3: purl.
Work crochet chain bind off:* insert hook into 3 sts, pull the yarn through 3 sts and work 1 sc, ch 3, - repeat from * to the end of the row.

Finishing: weave inn all yarn ends. Block the kerchief.

I purchased it in Joann as part of the steel hook set. I think you can use a 2.25 mm hook instead.

This pattern calls for a crochet hook 2.00mm. Where do you purchase this hook
as all of the charts on crochet hooks say a US 2.00 is not available.
