Free Baby Hat Knitting Pattern

Size: 6 m, 12 m

Materials: Gaia by Filati (affiliate link) Bertagna 100% wool fingering weight yarn 100 m (109 yrd) /25g Color pink - 1 skein (color A).
Gaia by Filati (affiliate link) Bertagna 100% wool fingering weight yarn 100 m (109 yrd) /25g Color white - 1 skein (color B).

Needles: circular #2 (2.75 mm) and double pointed #2 (2.75 mm) OR SIZE NEEDED TO OBTAIN GAUGE

Gauge for 2-color pattern: 24 st x 64 rows = 4" x 4" (10 x 10 cm)

Abbreviations:
k - knit
p – purl
sl2 wyib - slip 2 with yarn in back
k2tog – knit 2 together (right leaning decrease)
RS – right side

Patterns:

Two-Color Pattern in rounds:
Multiple of 4
Cast on with color A (pink) and knit 1 row.
Row 1 (right side): color B (white), k3, *sl 1 wyib (with yarn in the back), k3*, repeat from * to * to the end of the round.
Row 2: color B, p3, *sl 1 wyib (with yarn in front), p3*, repeat from * to * to the end of the round.
Row 3: color A, k1, *sl 1 wyib, k3*, repeat from * to *, end sl 1, k2.
Row 4: color A, p1, *sl 1 wyib, p3*, repeat from * to *, end with sl 1, p1.

Stocking Stitch
In rounds: all rows - knit

Rib 1x1:
All rounds *k1, p1* repeat to the end


Directions

The hat is worked bottom up in rounds, without a seam.
Cast on 80 sts and work rib for 18 row. In the last row increase evenly by 16 sts.
Continue to work 2-color pattern for 44 rows.
Continue to work stocking stitch in color A for 10 rows.
To shape the top of the hat decrease by 8 sts evenly in every row.
Cut yarn, leaving a 10" (25 cm) tail. Pull through all the sts and secure.


Finishing:

Make a small pink pom-pom and sew on the top of the hat.
