Free Baby Hat Knitting Pattern

Head circumference: 16"-18"

Materials: Lion Brand (affiliate link) Nature's Choice Organic Cotton aran weight yarn, 103 yards (94 meters) /85 gr, color 202 Berry Jam - 1 ball
Lion Brand (affiliate link) Fun Fur 100% Polyester yarn, color white, 64 yards (59 meters) / 50 gr - 0.1 skein.

Needles: circular US #5 (3.75mm) and US #6 (4.00mm)

Gauge: 16 sts x 24 rows = 4"x4" (10 cm x 10 cm)

Patterns in rounds.
Ribbing 1x1:
All rounds *k1, p1 repeat from * to the end

Stockinette:
All rounds knit.

Directions:

With #5 (3.75 mm) needles cast on 52 sts,  join and continue to work in rounds.
Work 1x1 ribbing for 20 rounds.
Change to #6 (4.00 mm) needles and work rounds 21- 48 in stockinette.
Starting from round 49 decrease by 4 sts in every odd round.
Round 49: *k2tog, k11 repeat from * 4 times
Round 50 and all even rounds knit
Round 51: *k2tog, k10 repeat from * 4 times
Round 53: *k2tog, k9 repeat from * 4 times
Round 55: *k2tog, k8 repeat from * 4 times
Round 57: *k2tog, k7 repeat from * 4 times
Round 59: *k2tog, k6 repeat from * 4 times
Round 61: *k2tog, k5 repeat from * 4 times
Round 63: *k2tog, k4 repeat from * 4 times
Round 65: *k2tog, k3 repeat from * 4 times
Round 67: *k2tog, k2 repeat from * 4 times
Round 69: *k2tog, k1 repeat from * 4 times
Rounds 70-90 knit.
Round 91: *k2tog, repeat from * 4 times
Cut yarn, leaving a 4" (10 cm) tail. Pull through remaining sts and secure.

With Fun Fur yarn pick up 52 sts along the bottom edge of the hat. Knit 3 rows. Bind off.

Pom-Pom

With Fun Fur yarn cast on 10 sts and knit 10-12 rows to get a small square. Bind off.
Cut a length of Fun Fur yarn, thread into a tapestry needle. Baste the edges of the square.
Pull the ends to get a small pom-pom. Sew it to the end of the hat.
