Flower Arbor Throw

Free Motif Afghan Crochet Pattern

The throw is crocheted from the flower motives, which are connected using join-as-you-go method.

Size: 76" (190 cm) x 56" (140 cm)

Materials: 100% wool DK weight yarn, color grey (A) 142 yd (130 m) / 50 gr - 17 balls
100% wool DK weight yarn, color: different shades of blue, 142 yd (130 m) / 50 gr - 15 balls

Hook: H (5.0 mm) OR SIZE NEEDED TO OBTAIN GAUGE

Gauge: 6" (15 cm) - 1 square motif.

Directions:

The throw consists of 88 motifs (8 x 11) connected using the as-you-go method while working the last round of the motif. The "flower" centers of the motifs are worked with differents shades of blue.

Motif:

With yarn B chain 10, join with sl st to form a ring.
Round 1: ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), 23 dc into ring, sl st to ch 3.
Round 2: ch 4 (counts as 1 dc and ch 1), *1dc, ch1, repeat from * 23 times, sl st to ch 4.
Round 3: ch 2 (counts as 1 sc and ch 1), *1 sc, ch1, skip ch1 and 1 dc, [1 sc, ch 10, 1 sc] into ch1-space, ch1, skip 1 dc and ch1, repeat from * 5 more times, end with 1 sc, ch 1, skip 1 ch and 1 dc, [1 sc, ch 5, 1 double triple crochet (dtrc, 3 yos)] into ch1-space.
Round 4: ch3, (counts as 1 dc), 6 dc into dtrc-space, *1sc over 1sc, 4 dc into ch 10-space, turn the work and crochet 1 triple crochet (trc) into the third dc (4th from the end) of the previous "petal" (see diagram), 3 dc into the same ch 10-space, ch 1, 7 dc, repeat from * 5 more times, end with 1 sc, 4 dc, into ch-5-dtrc-space, turn, 1 trc into the 3rd dc, 3 dc into the same ch-5-dtrc-space, ch1, sl st to ch3.
Round 5: with yarn A, ch2, *[3 dc, ch3, 3 dc] into 1trc-space, ch1, [1sc, ch1, 1 sc] into ch1-space on top of the next "petal", ch 1, [3dc, ch1, 3 dc] into 1trc-space, ch1, [1sc, ch2, 1sc] into ch1-space on top of the next "petal", ch1, from * repeat 3 more times, end with 1sc, into ch1-space, ch1, 1sc into ch2.
Round 6: ch3, *[5dc, ch5, 5 dc] into ch3-space, ch2, [1sc, ch1, 1sc] into ch2-space, ch1, 3 sc over 3 dc, [1 sc, ch1, 1sc] into ch1-space, 3sc over 3 dc, ch1, [1sc, ch1, 1sc] into ch2-space, ch2, from * repeat 3 more times, end with 1sc, ch1, 1sc into ch1-space. Tie off.

Round 6:ch3, *[5dc, ch2, sl st to corresponding ch5, ch2, 5 dc] into ch3-space, ch2, [1sc, sl st to other motif, 1sc] into ch2-space, ch1, 3 sc over 3 dc, [1 sc, sl st to other motif, 1sc] into ch1-space, 3sc over 3 dc, ch1, [1sc, sl st to other motif, 1sc] into ch2-space, ch2, from * repeat 3 more times, end with 1sc, ch1, 1sc into ch1-space. Tie off

Border

Crochet border around the throw edges.
Round 1: ch4 (counts as 1 dc and ch2), *1 dc, ch2, skip 2 sts, repeat from * to the end of the round, sl st to ch4.
Round 2: ch1 (counts as 1 sc), *2 sc into ch2, 1sc in 1dc, from * repeat to the end of the round, sl st to ch1.
Round 3: ch9 (counts as dc, ch6), skip 6sc, *sc in next sc, ch3, sc in next sc, ch11, skip next 10 sc, repeat from * to the end of the round, end with sc in next sc, ch3, sc in next sc, ch6, skip next 3 sc, dc in last sc, sl st to ch9. In the corners work ch5, 1dc, ch5, 1 dc, ch5.
Round 4: ch1, sc in the middle of ch9, ch2, 5 dc in ch9-loop, sc in ch3-loop, *[5dc, ch2, sc, ch2, 5dc] in ch11-loop, sc in ch3-loop, repeat from * to the end of the round, end with 5dc in ch6-loop, ch2, sc, sl st to ch1. In the corners work 5dc, ch2, sc, ch2, 9dc, ch2, sc, ch2, 5dc.
Round 5: ch6, *sc in ch2-space, ch11, skip next 11 sts, sc in ch2-space, ch3, repeat from * to the end of the round, end with dc in last sc, sl st to ch6. In the corners work ch3, 1 dc, ch5, 1 dc, ch4.
Round 6: ch2, sc in ch3-loop, *[5dc, ch2, sc, ch2, 5dc] in ch11-loop, sc in ch3-loop, repeat from * to the end of the round, sl st to ch2. In the corners work 15 dc.
Tie off.
