Gauge: 22 dc x 16 rows = 4" x 4" (10 cm x 10 cm)

Cardigan
Cardigan is worked from the bottom of the back, to the shoulders, to the bottom of the front as
one piece.
With yarn C chain 34.
Rows 1-10: ch 2 (counts as dc), dc to the end of the row.
Rows 1-2, 7-8 - yarn C
Rows 2-3, 9-10 - yarn B
Rows 5-6 - yarn A
Continue with yarn A
Row 11: ch 13 (counts as dc + ch 10 +1 sc), 9 sc into ch 10 (starting from the 2nd ch from the
hook - this is for the right sleeve), continue to work dc to the end of the round, work ch 10 at
the end of the row for the left sleeve.
Row 12: ch 2 (counts as 1 dc), dc into the chain, over dc and over sc to the end of the row = 54
dc.
Rows 13-18: ch 2 (counts as 1 dc), dc to the end of the row.
Divide for fronts:
19 dc - right front
16 dc - neck opening
19 dc - left front
Right Front
Row 19: ch 2 (counts as 1 dc), 18 dc, turn. Continue to work right front separately.
Rows 20-23: ch 2 (counts as dc), dc to the end of the row.
Row 24: ch 2 (counts as dc), 2 dc in the next st, dc to the end of the row.
Row 25: ch 2 (counts as dc), dc to the end of the row, ch 6 at the end of the row for neck
shaping.
Row 26: ch 2 (counts as 1 dc), dc to the end of the row into the chain and over dc. = 26 dc.
Rows 27-31: ch 2 (counts as dc), dc to the end of the row.

Left Front
Row 19: secure the yarn to the 19th st from the end of the row and work 19 dc.

Row 24: ch 2 (counts as dc), 16 dc, 2 dc in the next st, 1 dc in the last st, ch 6 at the end of the
row for neck shaping.
Row 25: ch 2 (counts as 1 dc), dc to the end of the row into the chain and over dc. = 26 dc.
Rows 26-31: ch 2 (counts as dc), dc to the end of the row.
Row 32: ch 1 (counts as 1 sc), 9 sc, 16 dc.
Rows 33-42: ch 2 (counts as dc), dc to the end of the row.

Tie off.
Finishing
Join side and sleeve seams.
With yarn A work 2 rows of dc along the neckline. Tie off.
With yarn C work 1 row of dc along the center of the right front, neck line and center of the left
front. Tie off.
With yarn C work 1 round of dc along the sleeve bottoms.
Crochet chain 20" (50 cm) long and lace the fronts.
Skirt
Skirt is worked in rounds from the top down.
Note: although the skirt is worked in rounds, the direction of the crochet changes every round
like in "back and forth" crochet.
Chain 60, join with sl st to make ring.
Round 1: ch 2 (counts as dc), dc to the end of the round = 60 dc. Turn and work to the opposite
direction.
Round 2: ch 2 (counts as dc), 2 dc in the next st, *1 dc in the next st, 2 dc in the next st, repeat
from * to the end of the round, sl st to ch 2 = 90 dc. Turn and work to the opposite direction.
Round 3: ch 2 (counts as dc), dc to the end of the round.
Round 4: ch 2 (counts as dc), 2 dc in the next st, *2 dc in the next 2 sts, 2 dc in the next st,
repeat from * to the end of the round, sl st to ch 2 = 120 dc.
Rounds 5-14: ch 2 (counts as dc), dc to the end of the round. Tie off.
Work the stripes as follows:
2 rounds - A
2 rounds - B
2 rounds - C
Finishing
Work 2 rounds of "1 dc, ch 1, skip 1" along the top of the skirt. Work chain for 20" (50 cm).
Inset chain into the waistband.
Backpack
Backpack is crocheted from the bottom up in rounds, without seams. The straps are
crocheted separately and attached to the backpack.
With color A
Chain 4, join with sl st to make ring.
Rnd 1: ch 2 (counts as sc), 11 dc into the ring, sl st to ch 2 = 12 dc
Rnd 2: ch 2 (counts as dc), *2 dc in the same st, repeat to the end of the round, sl st to ch 2 =
24 dc.
Rnd 3: ch 2 (counts as dc), 2 dc in the same st, *1 dc, 2 dc in the next st, repeat from * to the
end of the round, sl st to ch 2 = 36 dc.
Rnd 4: ch 2 (counts as dc), 2 dc in the same st, *2 dc, 2 dc in the next st, repeat from * to the
end of the round, sl st to ch 2 = 48 dc.
Rnd 5: ch 2 (counts as dc), BPdc to the end of the round, sl st to ch 2.
Rnds 6-16: ch 2 (counts as dc), dc to the end of the round, sl st to ch 2.
Rnd 17: ch 2 (counts as dc), *ch 1, skip 1, 3 dc in next 3 dc, repeat from * to the end of the
round, sl st to ch 2. Tie off.
Strap
With yarn A ch 3
Row 1 and all other rows: ch 2 (counts as 1 dc), 2 dc.
Work until 9.5" (24 cm) long (or to desired length).
Finishing
Work 1 row of sc along the bottom ridge (top of rnd 4) attaching straps in the process. Sew on
the other ends of the straps to the top of the backpack.
Crochet a chain for the drawstring. Insert into the loops at the top of the backpack.
