I love this pattern for my little 2 year old grandson but have never knitted a sweater.Do I need to use 2 strands of yarn or can I use a thicker yarn? Where can I find assistance with using circular needles which I gather is necessary for this pattern? Thankyou for sharing this pattern. I live in Australia. Pauline

Hello Pauline, I am knitting this jumper for one of my grandsons. I this k the yarn is 4ply so doubled up makes an aran weight. I am using an aran yarn so using single strand.

The sweater is knitted back & forth, not in circles so if you are making the smaller sizes straight needles are fine. That's what I am doing for the smallest size. The circular needles are probably useful if you are making the largest sizes because of the nu Ber of stitches - it enables you to see the whole width of the piece.

The smaller needles (usually use 5mm for aran) give a much better neater finish to garter stitch.

I hope this helps I'm happy to help any time

Any guidelines as to how much yarn you'd need for the bigger sizes? The 4 skeins listed would seem to only be enough for the size 2, possibly 4, but definitely not enough for size 8 or 10.
