Sizes: S (M, L, XL, 2X, 3X)

Materials: Noro (affiliate link) Hitsuji bulky weight yarn (100% wool) 110 yards (101 meters) / 100 gr, color 5 - 3 (3, 3, 4, 4, 5) balls
Brown Sheep (affiliate link) Lamb's Pride Bulky super bulky weight yarn(85% Wool, 15% Mohair) 125 yards (114 meters) / 100 gr, color Black - 3 (3, 3, 4, 4, 5) skeins
1 large button 2" (5 cm) in diameter

Note about yarn weight
Although Noro (affiliate link) yarn is marked bulky and Lamb's Pride Bulky is labelled super bulky, Noro (affiliate link)
yarn is actually thicker than Lamb's Pride. To get the right gauge, I added 1 strand of black
fingering weight sock yarn (Elann (affiliate link).com Sock it to me) to the Lamb's Pride. It is important to
achieve the same gauge with both yarns you are going to use for this jacket. Make sure you knit a swatch with both yarns, to make sure they produce the same gauge. I was using yarn from my stash, but if I was purchasing yarn specifically for this jacket, I would probably get something other than Lamb's Pride, closer in thickness to the Noro (affiliate link).

Needles: US 10.5 (6.5 mm) circular needles.

Gauge: 10.4 sts x 15 = 4" (10 cm x 10 cm)

Abbreviations:

k - knit
p - purl
sl - slip
kfr&b - knit front and back
w&t = wrap and turn in short rows.
Make 1 increase (M1) - I used the increase described by Elizabeth Zimmerman. Make a
backward loop over the right-hand needle and in the next row purl as a regular stitch.

Pattern notes:

Stockinette stitch in rows:
Row 1 (RS): knit
Row 2 (WS): purl
Repeat 2 rows.

Garter st
All rows knit.

Selvedge stitches: first st slip as if to knit, last st purl

To wrap and turn in the short rows:
With yarn in front sl 1 stitch to the right needle
Move yarn between the needles to the back
Slip the stitch back to the left needle
Turn the work and bring the yarn back to the wrong side between the needles

The jacket is worked in stockinette st back and forth, sideways as one piece, beginning from
the right front corner. Then the front stitches are transferred to a length of yarn and only
back sts are worked (center of the back), then stitches for the left front are cast on and the
left part of the back and front worked as one piece. The central part of the front is worked
simultaneously with the shawl collar also in stockinette st. The collar is finished with applied
I-cord. The sleeves are worked back and forth in stockinette st. Finally, the bottom band is
worked in garter st. 60" circular needles are used to accommodate all stitches.

Jacket

Cast on 144 (148, 152, 156, 158, 160) sts using provisional cast on method.
Work 20 (22, 26, 28, 30, 34) rows of stockinette st: 4 rows with black yarn and the remaining
rows with Noro (affiliate link) yarn.
Next row transfer 72 (74, 76, 78, 79, 80) sts (this are the front sts) to a length of yarn and
continue to work the remaining sts for 34 (36, 38, 40, 42, 44) rows in stockinette st. Work 14
(15, 16, 17, 18, 19) rows in Noro (affiliate link) yarn, 6 rows in black yarn and the remaining 14 (15, 16, 17,
18, 19) rows in Noro (affiliate link) yarn.
At the end of the last row cast on 72 (74, 76, 78, 79, 80) sts using provisional cast on method.
Work stockinette st for 20 (22, 26, 28, 30, 34) rows in Noro (affiliate link) yarn and the last 4 rows in black
yarn. Transfer all the sts to a length of yarn.

Sleeves

Sleeves are worked in stockinette st in black yarn.

For the right sleeve remove the waste thread from the provisional cast on and transfer the
first 49 (49, 50, 51, 51, 51) sts to a length of yarn, transfer next 47 (49, 52, 55, 56, 59) st to a
needle and remaining 49 (49, 50, 51, 51, 51) sts to a length of yarn. For the left sleeve just
transfer the sts as established. Work stockinette st for 30 (32, 34, 36, 38, 38) rows or to
desired length. Work 6 rows of garter st. Bind off.

Button Bands with Shawl Collar

Worked in black yarn in stockinette st.

Transfer the sts of the right front from the length of yarn, pick up and knit 23 (25, 25, 27, 29,
31) along the back neck, and place marker on the center st of the collar. Then unravel the
provisional cast on of the left front and transfer the sts to the same needle. Work stockinette
st for 18 (18, 20, 20, 22, 22) rows. At rows 3, 5, 7, 9 and 11 increase by 1 st on both sides of
the center st of the collar, working m 1, k 1, m 1.
In the next row make one buttonhole as follows: Knit 37 (38, 39, 40, 41, 42) sts, bind off next 3
st. Continue as est. In the next row cast on 3 sts using single cast on method.
Work 2 more rows.
In the next row start working short rows to shape the shawl collar.
Short row 1: work the rows to the 50th st after the center st of the collar, w&t.
Short row 2: purl to the 50th st after the center of the collar, w&t.
Short row 3: work the rows to the 40th st after the center st of the collar, w&t.
Short row 4: purl to the 40th st after the center of the collar, w&t.
Short row 5: work the rows to the 30th st after the center st of the collar, w&t.
Short row 6: purl to the 30th st after the center of the collar, w&t.
Short row 7: work the rows to the 20th st after the center st of the collar, w&t.
Short row 8: purl to the 20th st after the center of the collar, w&t.
Short row 1: work the rows to the 10th st after the center st of the collar, w&t.
Short row 2: purl to the 10th st after the center of the collar, w&t.
Next row knit to the end of the row, picking up the wraps and working them together with the
st it was wrapped around.
Next row: purl to the end of the row, picking up remaining wraps and working them together
with the st it was wrapped around. Leave sts on the needle or on the length of the waste
yarn.

Bottom Band

Pick up and knit 100 (107, 122, 128, 138, 150) st along the bottom of the jacket, including the
button band, and work 14 rows of garter st. Bind off.

Finish the collar with applied I-cord starting from the bottom band.

See video instructions for knitting applied I-cord

Finishing

Finish the side seams with 3-needle bind off or just sew them on. Join the sleeve seams.

Sew on the button.

Enjoy!
