Short overview of the pattern:

The cowl is worked from the top down in rounds without seams. First it's worked in 1x1 rib pattern, then in stockinette with increases before and after 4 marked stitches.

Cowl

Cast on 72 st, join and continue to work in rounds, take care not to twist the stitches. Place a marker at the beginning of the round, make sure this marker differs from the other 4 markers you'll need later. Slip marker while working.
Work 1x1 Rib (k 1, p 1) for 42 rounds.
Round 43: K 10, (m 1, pm, k 1, m 1, k 17) 3 times, m 1, pm, k 1, m 1, k 7 = 80 sts
Round 44 and all even rounds: knit
Round 45 and all odd rounds: slip the beginning marker, *knit till the next marker, m1, sm, k1, m1 - repeat from * 4 times, knit to the end of the round. Thus in every odd row the number of sts increases by 8.

Repeat rounds 43-44 twenty more times. After round 83 the number of sts is 240.
Round 85: knit

Round 86: purl.

Repeat rounds 85-86 one more time.
Bind off.

Finishing
Weave in all yarn ends. Block the cowl.

Enjoy!
