Daisy Sundress for 18-inch Dolls

Free Doll Dress Crochet Pattern

This lightweight summer dress features a daisy theme. I used additional yarn colors to create a color transition towards the bottom of the skirt. A daisy headband completes the outfit.

The dress is worked in one piece from the top down and side-to-side, turning at the end of each round, which leaves an opening at the back.

Size information: The dress will fit 18-inch dolls, such as American Girl Doll, Our Generation, My Life As, etc.

Skills Required/Techniques Used:
-Chain
-Single Crochet stitch
-Double Crochet stitch
-Post stitches, front and back.

Materials: Aunt Lydia (affiliate link)'s Classic Crochet Thread size #10 (100% mercerized cotton), colors: maze – 1 ball and goldenrod (optional) ¼ of ball for dress, white for flowers.

Notions: tapestry needle, eight 4-6 mm plastic or steel snaps.

Hook: steel hook 1.75 mm OR SIZE NEEDED TO OBTAIN GAUGE.

Gauge: 28 dc x 16 rows = 4" x 4” (10 cm x 10 cm)

Abbreviations:
ch - chain
dc - double crochet
sc - single crochet
sl st - slip stitch
BPdc - back post double crochet
FPdc - front post double crochet
RS - right side
WS - wrong side


Dress

The dress is worked in one piece, top-down and side-to-side, leaving an opening at the back, turning at the end of each round.

The groups of 3 dc at the beginning and 3 dc at the end of each row form a button band.


Yoke

Chain 65 sts.

Row 1: ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), 1 dc in the next 8 chains, *2 dc in the next ch, chain 2, 2 dc in the next chain, 1 dc in the next 13 chains, repeat from * 3 times, 2 dc in the next chain, chain 2, 2 dc in the next chain, 1 dc in each of the last 9 chains. Turn.

Rows 2 - 5: ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), 1 dc in each dc till ch-2-space, *2 dc in the ch-2-space, ch 2, 2 dc in the same ch-2-space, 1 dc in each dc till the next ch-2-space- repeat from * 3 times, 2 dc in the ch-2-space, ch 2, 2 dc in the same ch-2-space, 1 dc in each dc till the end of the row. Turn.

Divide for sleeves and bodice:

Row 6 (RS): ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), 1 dc in each of the next 18 dc, 1 dc in the first ch-2-space, ch 5, skip the next 33 dc, 2 dc in the second ch-2-space, 1 dc in each of the next 33 dc, 2 dc in the third ch-2-space, chain 5, skip the next 33 dc, 1 dc in the last ch-2-space, 1 dc in each of the next 19 dc. = 89 sts. Turn.

Row 7 (WS): ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), 1 dc in each of the next 2 dc, *ch 1, skip 1 st, 1 dc in the next dc - repeat from* till 3 last sts, 1 dc in each of the last 3 dc. Turn.

Row 8 (RS): ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), 1 dc in each of the next 2 dc,*2 dc in the ch-1-space, 1 dc in the next dc - repeat from * to last 4 sts, 2 dc in the next ch-1-space, 1 dc in each of the last dc. =130 sts

Row 9 (WS): ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), 1 dc in each of the next 2 dc, *1 dc in each of the next 2 dc, BPdc in the next dc - repeat from * to last 5 dc, 1 dc in each of the last 5 dc.

Row 10 (RS): ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), 1 dc in each of the next 2 dc, *1 dc in each of the next 2 dc, FPdc in the next dc - repeat from * to last 5 dc, 1 dc in each of the last 5 dc.

Repeat row 9 and 10 fifteen more times or to desired length. The length of my skirt (from yoke to hem is 7 inches). Work the last 6 rows in goldenrod color (optional).

The last row: ch 1, 5 dc in the third dc, *sc in the post st, 5 dc in the next post st - repeat from * to the end of the row. Tie off.


Daisy

With yellow thread, ch 5, join in circle with sl.st.

Round 1: *sc in the circle, ch 1 - repeat from * 5 times, join with sl. st. Cut yellow thread, attach white.

Round 2: *ch 1, 4 dc in the ch-1-space, ch1, sl st in the sc - repeat from * 5 times. Cut thread


Finishing

Weave in all thread ends. Sew snaps on the button bands. Sew daisies on the dress.


Headband

Chain 4.

Row 1: ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), 1 dc in the forth chain from the hook, 1 dc in each of the 3 chains. Turn.

Row 2: ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), 1 dc in each of the 4 dc. Turn.

Repeat row 2 until the piece measures 11 1/2". Check on your doll's head.

Cut thread. Sew the short ends. Make 6 daisies (or more) and sew them onto the headband.
