Free Knitting and Crochet Patterns from Elaine Phillips

I am quite an accomplished knitter and I have tried the first 6 rows several times. I end up after row two beginning the Bluebell lace and at the end of the row I end up with half the stitches I began with. I have no idea what I am doing wrong.
