No, you are not correct. Stocking stitch in the round is knitting on straight needles, garter stitch in the round is stocking stitch on straight needles. Everything you know from working straight needles is opposite for knitting in the round. The pattern designer explains all of this pretty clearly at the beginning of the pattern.
