How do you get 14 sts = 4" on 3.5mm needles? I can't get that with 5mm needles! Thanks for your help!

Hi Evelyn, In the pattern you knit 4 rows of rib stitch and then 26 rows in stockinette. That will put you on row 31. :) I hope that helps!

you have 4 rows and then 26 rows before row 31, which equals 30 rows. rows 27 to 30 are not missing

I actually put a zipper in one of mine. Another one I turned around and put buttons on it.

Will give buttons a try -- never done a zipper on knitting. Good for you!

Row 31: cast off 8 sts in the middle of the front, you would knit 11 then cast off 8 sts and knit the last 11 sts.....

You have to use the needles of the size, which allows you to achieve recommended gauge.

Yes, you can use sport weight yarn, but you need to achieve the gauge specified in the pattern.

Since you suppose to finish each half of the back separately, you have to cast off 4 st once on each back.

Very easy pattern. I single crocheted several rows along one edge of the back & had a small flap to lay across & used Velcro tabs to fasten the back. Much easier for my 3 yr old granddaughter.

the stitch gauge is confusing - doesn't seem to make sense. What size needles do every one else use?

I'm currently doing the front. For "Row 33 decrease one stitch to shape the neckline." Is the decreasing done at the neckline and on both sides so that they remain even (10 stitches on each side after casting off the 8 and decreasing)?

I have made several variations of this sweater and they were really cute. I wish I could upload pictures for you all, so that you could see how versatile this pattern is! I even put zippers in two of them rather than the snaps. Made matching hats....my grandaughter was thrilled!

Would really prefer patterns that do not require snaps at back...am making for a 3/4-year old and snaps a problem...not the snaps but the pressure on the knitting while she learns to unsnap.

Great Pattern works up fast! Do you have one where it starts at front goes over shoulders and down back one piece. Or on circs splitting back and front for underarms and snaps but has less joining maybe sleeves from shoulders down as well or too much to do for doll clothes? Thank you.

On row 31 when you cast off 8 sts in the middle of the front and continue knitting the left and right parts of the front separately, are you working with two sets of needles and two separate skeins of yarn?

on the front, "row 31 - cast off 8 stitches in middle, knit right and left parts separately. row 33 - decrease 1 stitch ____". What do I do on row 32?

Can I use other yarn for your patterns? I have lots of sport or worsted (4 ply?) yarn from left over projects.
