Gauge 20 sts x 30 rows = 4" x 4" (10 cm x 10 cm)
Abbreviations:
dpn – double pointed needles
K – knit
P – purl
St , sts – stitch, stitches
co – cast on
m 1 - make 1 increase - I used the increase described by Elizabeth Zimmerman: make a backward loop over the right-hand needle and in the next row/round purl/knit it as a regular stitch.
sm - slip marker
1x1 Rib in rounds:
All rounds: *k1, p1 repeat from * all the way around.
Stockinette in rounds: All rounds knit
Tights
The tights are worked on 5 dpn in rounds from the top (waist) to the bottom (stocking) without seams.
With white yarn cast on 32 sts, close into round and continue to work in rounds, distribute to 4 needles, 8 sts on each needle. Mark the beginning of the round.
Work 4 rounds in 1x1 rib.
Round 5: m1 (move the beg. marker before this st), k16, m1 (place another marker before this stitch), k16. = 34 sts
Rounds 6-10: knit, slip markers while working.
Round 11 and the odd rounds (13, 15, 17, 19, 21, 23, and 25): m1, sm, k1, m1, knit all sts to the second marker, m1, sm, k1, m1, knit all sts to the first marker. Thus in each of these rounds the number of sts is increased by 4.
After round 11 = 38 sts
Round 13 = 42 sts
Round 15 = 46 sts
Round 17 = 50 sts
Round 19 = 54 sts
Round 21 = 58 sts
Round 23 = 62 sts
Round 25 = 66 sts
Transfer half of the sts (33 sts) between the second marker and the beginning of the round to a piece of waste yarn.
You will have 33 sts remaining on 2 needles. Start to knit them and re-distribute sts to 3 needles, 11 st on each needle. Close into round and contiinue to work in rounds. Mark the beg. of the round.
Work 3 rounds.
Round 4 and all even rounds (6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, 20, 22, 24, 26, 28, 30, 32 - decrease rounds):
knit to the last 2 sts, k2tog, thus you decrease the number of sts by 1. After round 32 youlll have 18 sts.
Work in white until round 9, then work 2 rounds in red, and change the color every 2 rounds.
Work 50 rounds in all.
Continue in white:
Round 51: *k2tog, k4 repeat from * 3 times = 15 sts
Rounds 52-54: knit
Round 55: *k2tog, k3 repeat from * 3 times = 12 sts
Rounds 56-65 knit.
Cut yarn, leaving a 4" (10 cm) tail. Pull through remaining 12 sts and secure.
Transfer the 33 sts from the piece of yarn to the needles, distribute them evenly. Work the second stocking the same way as the first one.
Finishing: weave in all yarn ends. Stitch a small hole between the stockings.
Enjoy!
